Press Release - Storm Warning System Testing

The City of Pittsburg will start monthly audio testing of its storm warning system
to insure the sirens are operational. The storm sirens will be tested the first
Wednesday of every month at noon during the severe weather season of April
through October. The testing dates for 2017 are:

April 5th, 2017
May 3rd, 2017
June 7th, 2017
July 5th, 2017
August 2nd, 2017
September 6th, 2017
October 4th, 2017

Should inclement weather be present at the time of the scheduled test, the sirens
will not be tested in an effort to avoid confusion between the test and an actual event.
The sirens will be sounded twice; once should be a continuous tone for storm
warnings and the second should be an on/off tone for Civil Emergency.

The City will have spotters at each of the 13 siren locations, but encourages
citizens of the community to contact the City if a siren is not functioning properly.

This audio testing is in addition to the silent weekly testing performed by the City
throughout the year to ensure the proper functioning of the siren system. In the event of
a real warning you are to immediately seek shelter for yourself and your family.

Any questions about the storm warning system or severe weather warnings may
be directed to the Public Utilities Department at 240-5126 or the Pittsburg Police
Department at 231-1700.
