August Pittsburg Beautiful Awards

Pittsburg Beautiful is pleased to announce its August awards. The awards are Michael Walker, 1704 N. Broadway, Frank and Peggy Polsak, 1403 S. Olive, and Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, 117 W. Fourth Street.

Michael Walker has owned her home at 1704 N. Broadway for 27 years. She is retired and wants to stay active. Working in her yard for 6 hours weekly, with the help of Randy McCall, keeps her fit. She takes pride in what she owns and wants to set an example for others, the city, and visitors.

Frank and Peggy Polsak, 1403 S. Olive, have owned their home for 46 years. They spend 12 hours weekly maintaining their property. “It is important to us to maintain our property because this is our home and where we raised our children.” They are very proud of the city of Pittsburg and feel it is their responsibility to keep their property well kept and safe. “The city is always working to improve our living conditions and we as residents should work on improvements as well.”

Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, 117 W. Fourth Street, has been located at this address since 1990. It is also the home of Kansas Travel Information Center, Explore Crawford County and the United Way of Southwest Missouri/ Southeast Kansas. “Whether a tourist, new resident or economic development prospect interested in making a significant investment in our community, we want to ensure that our building provides an attractive, progressive first impression of our area.” A significant renovation was completed in 2022 and they spend 3-5 hours weekly to ensure the building remains attractive for both residents and visitors. They feel that keeping our community clean projects an image of a place where residents and businesses are proud and want to be here. “That’s contagious and often leads to other businesses and residents wanting to be here as a result. This is an incredible community and we’re blessed to be a part of it.”
