Pardon our Progress: Downtown Street Temporarily Closed
Pittsburg, Kansas, July 7, 2017: The 400 block of North Broadway Street will be closed from
July 12th through mid-August to maintain safety while utility contractors access the municipal
water main, which is located under the street. Barricades will be put in place at the north
crosswalk of 4th and Broadway and the south crosswalk of 5th and Broadway on the morning of
July 12th. Traffic on Broadway will be detoured east one block to Locust Street.
Businesses in the 400 block of North Broadway can still be accessed by parking on 5th
street or in the public parking lot on the southwest corner of 5th and Locust. Handicapped
parking in front of Harry’s Café and the Kansas Teachers Community Credit Union will be
accessible by entering through the barricade on 5th street.
Workers will be installing connections from the water main to the four buildings being
redeveloped at Block 22 as well as the historic renovation of the Colonial Fox Theater,
ultimately protecting five historic downtown structures, and their occupants, with fire sprinklers.
City officials urge everyone to use extra caution in the area, or plan a different travel route
altogether, during this construction.
