City of Pittsburg Appoints Jared Wetzel as New Public Information Manager

PITTSBURG, KS –The City of Pittsburg has hired Jared Wetzel to fill the position of Public Information Manager. The position was previously held by Sarah Runyon, who is now serving as Community Development Specialist.

“We are excited to have Jared joining our team,” shared Pittsburg City Manager Daron Hall. “He brings experience and energy to the position, which will allow us to continue to engage our community and share our stories.”

In his new role, Wetzel is responsible for coordinating with local media representatives, and managing internal and external communications for the city. The position also helps the city maintain transparency, promote civic engagement, and improve communication with the citizens of Pittsburg.

“As a citizen of Pittsburg and Pitt State Alum, I am honored to serve my community is this role,” Wetzel stated. “I will bring enthusiasm and passion that will excite everyone. I look forward to building new relationships, and continue current ones.”

Wetzel holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Pittsburg State University. Originally from Lewis, Kansas, he moved to Pittsburg in 2008 to study broadcasting. Wetzel brings over ten years of experience that includes televisions broadcasting, marketing, and customer service. Previous positions include Web Producer at KOAM/FOX 14, Customer Service Manager at Pitt Plastics, and Marketing Director at HIX Corporation. Wetzel lives in Pittsburg with his family (Ashley – Wife, Stepson – Gavin, and Daughter – Stevie).
