PITTSBURG, KS – The City of Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Department is finalizing building plans for improvements to the Don Gutteridge Sports Complex. Construction on new concession and restroom facilities is slated to begin later this month.

Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Director Kim Vogel says the much-needed enhancements will serve patrons of the sports complex during ballgames, tournaments and other special events throughout the year.

“Thousands of families visit the facility for sporting events on an annual basis,” says Vogel. “These upgrades are going to make a big difference for all of our patrons who utilize the sports complex.”

Located at 702 Memorial Drive inside Lincoln Park, the Don Gutteridge Sports Complex hosts dozens of events and welcomes approximately 35,000 – 40,000 players and visitors each year.

Funding for the new restroom and concession facilities are made possible thanks to a $200,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant administered by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, and an estimated $227,000 from the City of

Pittsburg. Construction is expected to be completed in April 2019, weather permitting.
