Fall Spruce Up Pittsburg Event Set for October 12th

City Press Releases

September 23, 2024

Pittsburg, KS – The Neighborhood Advisory Council, in collaboration with local organizations, is excited to announce our inaugural Fall Spruce Up event. Scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, this community-driven initiative will focus on revitalizing the 700 & 800 blocks of East 6th and East 7th Streets, located just north of Schlanger Park.

With help from volunteers, property owners, local businesses and city staff, the goal will be to spruce up the block directly to the north of Schlanger park leading into the entrance of the park area. The teams will be clearing grass from sidewalks, trimming trees and landscaping in right of ways, assisting owners with bulky item removal and small landscaping needs, as well as installing improved signage for the park and Schlanger Neighborhood.

We invite all Pittsburg residents to join us in making a tangible difference in our community, especially currently reside Northeast Quadrant. Whether you’re able to lend a hand or simply want to learn more about the Neighborhood Advisory Council, your participation is valued. There will be coffee and donuts in the morning, and refreshments at lunchtime.

The Neighborhood Advisory Council was established in 2023 as part of the “Spruce Up Pittsburg” initiative, aiming to support city-wide cleanup efforts and create a citizen-led council that can access public and private resources. Our mission is to provide leadership, support, and information on neighborhood issues, ensuring Pittsburg’s neighborhoods remain healthy, safe, and vibrant.

Future Spruce Up events are already in the planning stages, and a process will be established for neighborhoods to request assistance with their own improvement projects. For more information, or to sign up for the upcoming event, please check out our website at www.pittks.org/nac or www.pittks.org/neighborhood-newsflash/.
