Fire at apartment complex leaves two injured

PITTSBURG, KS – At approximately 4:00 am on Sunday, December 13, 2020, the Pittsburg Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to a four-unit apartment complex at 1602 S. Walnut Street in Pittsburg in response to a heavy fire with victims trapped inside.
All residents of the apartment complex self-evacuated. One victim sustained injuries after jumping out a window. That person received medical treatment and has been released. Another resident is being treated in Springfield, MO for burns.
The apartment complex sustained heavy fire damage to one unit, and smoke and water damage to the other three units. The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office is currently at the scene investigating the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing and more details will be available in the coming days.
