May Pittsburg Beautiful Awards
City of Pittsburg
May 16, 2023
Pittsburg Beautiful is pleased to announce its May awards. T
The awards for homes are David and Kimberly Lawson, 412 S. Locust St, and Heath and Lynn Weidert, 2205 S. Stilwell: The business award goes to Stephanie Watts and Danielle Beitzinger owners of White Elephant Emporium, 804 N. Broadway. David and Kimberly Lawson, 412 S. Locust St. have owned their home for 19 years. They spend 2 to 3 hours on weekends working on their property. “We take pride in the appearance of our house and lawn.” They feel it is important to keep our city looking nice so new residents and businesses are attracted to Pittsburg. They found a 1946 Kansas City Star newspaper in their attic and believe their home was built in 1921.
Heath and Lynn Weidert, 2205 S. Stilwell, have owned their home for 20 years and spend 1-2 hours per week maintaining their property. They just finished a 2-year landscape project on both front and backyards. “We should feel proud of our homes and community. Nice properties show that the residents care and are willing to invest in their community. We feel that the new landscaping helped turn our house into a home.”
The White Elephant Emporium at 804 N. Broadway, owned by Stephanie Watts and Danielle Beitzinger, has been open for 2 years. They spend 40 hours a week working on the property. “Curb appeal is very important to us and our store. It represents to the world what they can expect the minute they walk through our doors! We are thrilled to be a part of Main Street.” Besides the personal investment, the owners want our downtown to grow and show pride. “We all harken to the days of a beautiful stroll downtown for a dinner and a shop,” says Stephanie. “We love being a part of Pittsburg and the sense of pride that Pittsburg has re-discovered. Our goal is to get as many out-of-towners to visit our shop and fall in love with our store and Pittsburg.”
