Released by Lt. A. Nance

On Wednesday afternoon, October 9, 2024, at approximately 4:04 PM, first responders with the Pittsburg Police Department, Pittsburg Fire Department, and Crawford County EMS were dispatched to the 23rd Street Bike Park located in the 600 block of east 23rd Street, in reference to a 47-year-old female who had been struck in the neck with a hatchet. The victim was deep in the wooded area of the bike park, making it difficult to locate her. With assistance from the Pittsburg Police Department’s drone unit, the victim was located, and first responders began rendering aid. Due to the difficult terrain in the bike park, assistance was requested from the Frontenac Fire Department to utilize their UTV to transport the victim to the ambulance. The victim was then transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers and detectives interviewed witnesses who were present at the time of the incident. As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Ashley Marie Wilson, of Pittsburg, was arrested. It was learned this incident stemmed from an argument between Ms. Wilson and the victim, who are acquaintances. Ms. Wilson was transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s office for booking.

Ms. Wilson was arrested for felony aggravated battery, and she is currently being held without bond.

Ms. Wilson is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other crimes, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at (620) 231-1700, or at our automated tip line, (620) 231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
