PITTSBURG, KANSAS –
On Monday afternoon, February 13, 2023, at approximately 2:05 PM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to Harris Heating & Air, located at 1403 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, Kansas, in reference to a report of a burglary and theft from the business. Officers reported that on the previous evening, (Sunday, February 12, 2023), suspects had unlawfully gained entry in to a storage container belonging to the business and stole several items, including scrap air conditioning units and a large amount of copper tubing, valued at over $2,000.00.
On Wednesday afternoon, February 15, 2023, while following up on information regarding possible suspects, officers and detectives located some of the items of stolen property at a residence in the 800 block of E. 9th St., in Pittsburg. When officers initially arrived on scene, two suspects fled into the residence and refused to come out. A search warrant for the residence was obtained, and was served at approximately 4:50 PM.
During the search of the residence, evidence and items of stolen property from the aforementioned business burglary at Harris Heating & Air were located and recovered. Additionally, items of evidence and stolen property from another theft at a Pittsburg business were located and recovered. This other business theft consisted of a large amount of copper wiring being stolen from an AT&T storage site location in the 400 block of N. Smith St. This additional business theft was reported to police on Wednesday morning, February 15, 2023.
Additionally, while at the residence, officers located and recovered a stolen 2017 Chevy Sonic hatchback, which had previously been reported to the Pittsburg Police Department on January 10, 2023.
During the search, the two aforementioned suspects who had fled into the residence upon officers’ arrival, 30-year-old Mackenzie E. Jenkins, of Pittsburg, and 30-year-old Heather L. Williams, also of Pittsburg, were located inside the home and were taken into custody without incident.
Mr. Jenkins was arrested for felony burglary to a non-dwelling, felony theft, felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor criminal damage. Ms. Williams was also arrested for felony burglary to a non-dwelling, felony theft, felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor criminal damage. Both Mr. Jenkins and Ms. Williams were transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking, where they are both currently being held without bond.
