One Arrested for Burglary of Local Pawn Shop
Police Department Press Release
September 12, 2019
On Thursday morning, September 12, 2019, at approximately 4:15 AM, an officer with the Pittsburg Police Department observed a subject inside Easy Money Pawn Shop, located at 818 N. Broadway St., Pittsburg. Given the early morning hour and suspicious activity of the suspect, the officer believed the business was actively being burglarized and requested additional officers to respond.
Once additional officers arrived on scene, including members of an anti-property crimes task force, entry into the pawn shop was made and a search of the premises was conducted. The suspect, who was later identified as 58-year-old Robert J. Alexander Jr., of Frontenac, was located shortly thereafter and taken into custody without incident. Mr. Alexander claimed that he had permission to be in the pawn shop, and the business owner was contacted and later arrived on scene. It was determined that Mr. Alexander was an acquaintance of the business owner, but he did not have permission to be in the business after hours.
Mr. Alexander was searched subsequently to his arrest, and various articles of property belonging to Easy Money Pawn Shop were found on his person, as well as items believed to be illegal drugs and unlawfully possessed prescription medications. Mr. Alexander was arrested for felony burglary, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of prescription medications, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor theft. He was transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking and is being held in lieu of a $5,000.00 bond.
