Pittsburg Police Arrest Suspect in Aggravated Battery Case

Pittsburg, KS – On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 2:22 AM, officers with the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to the area of the 100 block of W. 23rd Street, Pittsburg, in reference to a report of gunshots in the area. Officers arrived on scene and began checking the area, but did not initially locate anything suspicious. While officers were still checking the area, the dispatch center received a call from Pittsburg’s Mercy Hospital regarding a 20-year-old male who had arrived at the hospital’s emergency department with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers responded to the hospital and spoke with the victim, during which a suspect in the shooting was identified. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division were called in to assist the Patrol Division with the investigation.

Witnesses were interviewed and evidence was collected. At approximately 2:00 PM, Sunday, the suspect turned himself in to Pittsburg Police officers. As a result of the investigation, 22-
year-old Dominik S. Short was placed under arrest for felony Aggravated Battery with a deadly weapon, as well as an unrelated traffic warrant out of Crawford County, Kansas. Mr. Short was transported to the Crawford County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. The victim in this case was treated for their injuries and was released from the hospital on
Sunday.

Mr. Short is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
