November 21, 2024

PITTSBURG, KS – The City of Pittsburg, Downtown Advisory Board, Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and Pittsburg Arts Council are teaming up again this year for Small Business Saturday on November 30. The community is invited to participate in the Small Business Saturday passport event, where participants will collect stamps or signatures at local businesses to unlock deals and enter to win prizes.

Over 30 local retailers, restaurants, coffee shops, and other small, locally-owned businesses will participate in Small Business Saturday, with discounts, giveaways, gift certificates, free samples, and more throughout the day.

Shoppers can pick up their free passport at the Small Business Saturday booth set up at the Pittsburg Arts Council’s Holiday Art Market, happening on November 30, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Frisco Event Center in Pittsburg. Early-bird shoppers can also pick up their passports at the Corner Patio, Root Coffeehouse, Signet Coffee Roasters, Ron’s Supermarket, and Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce – a limited supply will be made available at these locations by Monday, November 25.

Shoppers will then take passports to participating businesses. To be entered to win a prize, shoppers will need to make a purchase from five businesses. Five stamps are required for the drawing this year to encourage people to shop small. A list of participating businesses, along with specials and discounts can be found at www.pittks.org/sbs.

Pittsburg Community Tree-Lighting Ceremony

To conclude Small Business Saturday, the City of Pittsburg and Downtown Pittsburg will host the annual Community Tree-Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 pm at Pritchett Pavilion in Downtown Pittsburg, located at the corner of 2nd & Broadway. This event is free to attend and open to everyone.

A festive holiday program is scheduled for 6:30 pm with celebrity emcee Dowe Quick leading the charge. Other special additions this year include vocal performances from St. Mary’s Colgan Elementary School Choir, a dance performance from BTC Athletics & Dance, and live music performed by Pittsburg Hispanic Banda.

Food vendors for this year’s event will include the Nutty Bavarian, Ron’s Supermarket, and TOAST. Nutty Bavarian will sell their signature roasted nuts and holiday-flavored popcorn; Ron’s Supermarket is giving away free hot cocoa, cookies, and milk; and TOAST will be selling spiked and regular hot cider.

Following a tree-lighting countdown, Santa Claus will hand out candy canes and take photos with families. Surprise characters and special guests may also be in attendance, so don’t miss the fun.

The beautiful 20-foot lighted tree will remain at Pritchett Pavilion throughout the holiday season for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to the generosity of local foundations, donors, and sponsorships, the tree is growing four feet this year, and lights, garland, ribbons, and wreaths will be added to Pritchett Pavilion for the holidays.

The City of Pittsburg would like to thank the following businesses and contributors for their support of the Pittsburg Community Tree-Lighting Ceremony in 2023 and 2024:

· Kelly’s Pittsburg Painting

The star on the tree is dedicated in memory of Nancy G. Miller.
