Street closure at 5th Street and Miles Avenue
City Press Releases
July 3, 2018
Starting Thursday, July 5, a portion of 5th Street, south of Westside Elementary School, will be closed for improvements relating to the City’s Safe Routes to School project. The east side of the intersection at the corner of 5th St. and Miles Ave. will be closed for approximately four (4) weeks while crews install a street gutter.
The gutter will reduce the water buildup along the school crosswalk on the south side of the elementary school. This improvement will also enhance drainage and elongate the life of the asphalt at the intersection.
This update is one of many Safe Routes to School improvements underway near Westside Elementary School. The City is also constructing a 10-foot trail, connecting the Watco Trail to the school from two separate locations, and repairing a portion of sidewalk south of Westside along Miles Ave.
Traffic barricades and advanced warning signs will be placed in the area to direct motorists and pedestrians. Motorists should use extreme caution in the work zone or plan a different travel route during this construction.
The City of Pittsburg appreciates the patience of motorists and residents while this work is performed. Please contact the Public Works Department at (620) 231-4170 with questions regarding this project.
